Christmas Day Fitness: 5 Quick Workouts You Can Do Between Presents and Dinner
Merry Christmas & Stay Active!
Merry Christmas from everyone at DC Personal Trainer! Today is all about family, food, and festivities. But a quick burst of activity between present-opening and the big dinner can actually help you enjoy the day even more. Here are 5 simple ways to stay active without missing any of the magic.
Why Move on Christmas Day?
I'm not suggesting you miss a moment of the celebrations. But fitting in 10-20 minutes of movement offers real benefits that make your Christmas even better:
Better Digestion
Light activity before your big meal helps your body process all those delicious treats.
Mood Boost
Exercise releases endorphins - perfect if family gatherings feel a bit overwhelming!
Family Fun
Get everyone involved for quality time that doesn't involve screens.
5 Christmas Day Mini-Workouts
The Post-Presents Power Walk (15-20 mins)
After the wrapping paper chaos settles, wrap up warm and head out for a family walk. Whether you're in Sale, Altrincham, or Hale, we're blessed with beautiful parks and green spaces.
The 12 Days of Christmas Workout (10 mins)
A fun challenge the whole family can do together in the living room. Assign an exercise to each of the 12 days and work through them:
Dance Party (10 mins)
Put on your favourite Christmas playlist and have a proper dance. No choreography needed - just move! Kids especially love this, and you'll burn around 100 calories in 10 minutes of enthusiastic dancing.
Tip: Wham's "Last Christmas" and Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas" are perfect tempo for a cardio boost!
Garden Games (15-30 mins)
If you've got outdoor space and the weather's not too harsh, get everyone outside for some active games:
- Football kickabout
- Frisbee throwing
- Obstacle course with garden furniture
- Tag or hide and seek
Pre-Dinner Stretching (5-10 mins)
Before you sit down for the big meal, take a few minutes to stretch. This helps with circulation and means you won't feel quite so sluggish after eating. Focus on:
- Neck rolls
- Shoulder stretches
- Standing hamstring stretches
- Hip circles
- Gentle twists

If today's mini-workout has got you thinking about making fitness a bigger part of your life, I'd love to help. Whether you prefer home training or studio sessions in Hale Barns, we can build a plan that fits your lifestyle.
Boxing Day & Beyond
If you enjoyed moving today, keep the momentum going tomorrow! Boxing Day is perfect for a longer walk - many of my clients in Urmston and Chorlton use the bank holiday for proper outdoor adventures.
The key is not to put pressure on yourself. Christmas is about enjoyment, not perfection. Even 10 minutes of movement today is something to be proud of.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful, active Christmas Day. Enjoy every mince pie - you've earned it!
