Personal Trainer Sale M33: What to Expect at Your First Studio Session

April 13, 2026  ·  7 min read  ·  By DC Personal Trainer

The most common thing people say before their first session is some version of "I'm not sure what to expect." That's completely normal — and this post answers that exactly. Here's what happens from the moment you pull into the car park to the end of your first session at the Sale M33 private studio.

The studio address

15 Newgate Road, Sale, M33 4NQ

Free parking on site · 5–10 min from Altrincham, Hale, and Timperley · Easy access from A56

Before you arrive

You don't need to do anything special to prepare for a first session. You don't need to be fit. You don't need to have been to a gym recently. You don't need to have eaten a specific way. The first session is designed to meet you exactly where you are right now — not where you think you should be.

What to wear: Comfortable training clothes — whatever you'd wear to a gym. Trainers rather than cross-trainers if you have them, but don't worry too much.
What to bring: Water bottle and ideally a note of your main goal or goals. Nothing else is needed.
What to eat beforehand: A light meal 90 minutes before is ideal. Don't train on a completely empty stomach or a very full one.
Parking: Free on-site parking directly at the studio on Newgate Road. No parking charge, no time limit.

Getting there from across the area

From Altrincham town centre

A56 north past the Tesco, left onto Marsland Road, right onto Newgate Road. Around 5 minutes.

From Hale village

Hale Road north to the A56, then follow signs for Sale. Newgate Road is off the A56 at Sale Moor. Around 8 minutes.

From Hale Barns

A538 or B5165 towards Sale Moor. Around 10 minutes via Park Road.

From Timperley

Brooklands Road towards Sale, then Northenden Road to Newgate Road. Around 10 minutes.

Step by step: what happens during the session

Step 1

Introduction and consultation (10–15 min)

We start with a conversation. No clipboard, no awkward questionnaire to fill in — just a straightforward discussion about where you are, what you want, and what's got in the way before. This is genuinely useful information, and it shapes everything that follows. Common topics include: how long you've been active (or inactive), what's worked in the past, any injuries or physical considerations, and your primary goal.

Step 2

Movement assessment (10 min)

A brief physical assessment to understand how you move — not to judge, but to make sure the programme we build is right for your body. This typically includes a squat pattern, a hinge, a push and pull, and a look at your posture. It takes about 10 minutes and directly informs the programme design. If you have an injury or area of pain, this is where we discuss it in detail.

Step 3

The first workout (30–35 min)

The first actual training session. It's intentionally not the hardest session you'll ever do — it's designed to introduce you to the key movement patterns, let you experience the studio, and establish a sensible baseline. You'll train with real weights and real intensity appropriate to your level, but the focus is on quality and learning rather than exhaustion.

A typical first session includes a warm-up, three to four compound movements, and a brief cool-down. You'll leave having actually trained — not just gone through the motions — but not so destroyed that you can't walk down stairs the next day.

Step 4

Programme discussion (5 min)

After training, a brief conversation about what we'll build from here — frequency, any home training between sessions, nutrition considerations if relevant, and an outline of the next 4–6 weeks. You'll leave the first session with a clear picture of the plan, not just a vague sense that something is happening.

About the studio

The Sale M33 studio is a private facility — not a public gym. When you're training here, it's just you and the trainer. No waiting for equipment, no ambient noise, no feeling self-conscious in front of strangers. For people who are new to training, returning after a long break, or who simply prefer a focused environment, this makes a significant difference.

Full equipment

Barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, cable machine, cardio equipment, and a dedicated outdoor artificial grass training area.

Private access

Sessions are one-to-one. No other clients in the space during your session.

Common questions about the first session

Do I need to be fit before starting?
No. The whole point of a first session is to establish where you are right now. There is no prerequisite fitness level. People start from genuinely varying starting points, and the programme is built around your current level.
What if I have an old injury?
Mention it during the consultation — ideally when you book so I can factor it in from the start. Most injuries can be trained around, and often training is part of recovery. I have 15 years of experience working with clients with all kinds of physical histories.
How long is the first session?
Allow one hour. It typically runs 55–60 minutes including the consultation, assessment, training, and programme discussion.
Do I pay before or after?
Payment is usually taken at the session. Bank transfer or cash are both fine.
Will I be sore the next day?
Probably a little — mild muscle soreness (DOMS) after a first session is normal. The session is intentionally structured to avoid the kind of excessive soreness that stops people coming back.
What if I decide personal training isn't for me?
Then you've had a free consultation and one solid session with no obligation. I'd rather you know early than waste your time and money on something that isn't right for you.

Who comes to the Sale studio

The majority of clients travelling to the Sale M33 studio come from Altrincham, Hale, Hale Barns, Timperley, Bowdon, and Sale itself. Most are working professionals in their 30s and 40s — people with demanding schedules who want focused, efficient, private training without the overhead of a commercial gym membership.

A significant portion are women — many of whom have found commercial gyms either intimidating, ineffective, or simply not right for their goals. The private studio environment is particularly well-suited to this. There's also a strong contingent of people returning to fitness after a gap of several years, often following a life change — a new job, kids getting older, or simply deciding it's time.
